Who we are

The first chapter under the newly established IEEE Rwanda Subsection, advancing aerospace and electronic systems engineering from Kigali.

Mission

What drives us

The IEEE AESS Rwanda Chapter promotes the advancement of aerospace and electronic systems: radar, avionics, navigation, space systems, and the engineering that ties them together. We serve members through technical activities, professional development, and community outreach, and we connect Rwandan engineers, researchers, and students to AESS's global network of aerospace and electronic systems professionals.

The society's field of interest spans the organization, systems engineering, design, development, integration, and operation of complex systems for space, air, ocean, and ground environments — including navigation, avionics, radar, telemetry, mobile electric power and electronics, automatic test, simulators, and command and control.

The chapter is being formed under the newly established IEEE Rwanda Subsection, joining the Subsection's growing family of society chapters and building on Rwanda's momentum in aviation, drone operations, and its growing space programme.

As Rwanda pursues its vision of becoming a regional ICT hub, the chapter works to ensure local talent has access to world-class technical knowledge, mentorship, and opportunities in aerospace and electronic systems engineering.

Structure

Part of IEEE

The chapter operates under the IEEE Rwanda Subsection, the first IEEE geographic unit in Rwanda, launched in Kigali in July 2026 within IEEE Region 8. It is affiliated with the IEEE Aerospace & Electronic Systems Society, the IEEE society dedicated to aerospace and electronic systems, with roots going back to the early 1950s. AESS serves its members worldwide through conferences, publications, education, technical operations, industry relations, and member services — the same pillars this chapter builds on locally.

  • Technical seminars, workshops, and distinguished lecturer talks
  • Support for student branches and young professionals
  • Collaboration with industry, academia, and government
  • Access to AESS publications, conferences, and training
  • International partnerships through the joint chapter, including joint sessions with chapters worldwide
